More than 50 Santa Cruz County K-12 Arts Specialists to visit Cabrillo on Wednesday, March 6th, for Professional Development Session with Cabrillo VAPA Division Faculty!

Mary McLaughlin, Arts Coordinator at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, and the Dean of Cabrillo College’s VAPA Division are excited to announce a fun, collaborative, and informative Professional Development Session for all County Arts Specialists at Cabrillo College this Wednesday, March 6th, from 1:45 – 3:15pm.

We have been planning this event for months, and we are excited that it is finally just around the corner.  We will come together on the beautiful Cabrillo College campus this Wednesday for an afternoon of collaboration and community building in the interest of enhancing arts education for all in Santa Cruz County, from K-14 and beyond!

We have an exciting schedule of events planned and the afternoon is open to all! If your time permits, please arrive early (at 1:15pm) and bring your lunch to share with your arts educator colleagues from across the county and across campus in the Samper Music Recital Hall Lobby.  The afternoon events will kick off at 1:45pm, sharp, in the Samper Music Recital Hall.  Participants will be afforded tours of the Cabrillo College VAPA facilities, followed by the opportunity to visit a wide variety of Cabrillo VAPA classes in action and mingle with Cabrillo faculty and students.  At the end of the scheduled activities (3:15pm), all are invited to visit our Cabrillo College Art Gallery, which is open until 4pm.

See below for complete schedule!

SPICE up your life by joining one of three dynamic SPICE teams! On Tuesday, February 5, from 12-2:30pm, nearly 40 VAPA and Cabrillo College faculty, staff, and students attended a workshop entitled: SPICE II – Special Projects to Stimulate Interdisciplinary Creative Education. This workshop allowed three new interdisciplinary SPICE action teams, comprised of faculty, staff, and students from the VAPA Division and beyond, to begin to develop strategic action plans and special projects that advance interdisciplinary creative education at Cabrillo. If you’re interested in joining one of these three teams, please share your interest with Dean John Graulty: john.graulty@cabrillo.edu. IMPORTANT: Please encourage student leaders in your ensembles, classes, clubs, etc, to join this effort, as well as key alumni and advisory committee members:

1. Arts Entrepreneurship Team – to help unleash the creativity in ALL our students, and help them leverage their creative skills in new ways to improve their lives and the lives of others.

2. Reinventing Live Arts Experiences Team – to involve/engage more Cabrillo College students in our live arts events by reinventing live arts experiences to make them more engaging, participatory, socially relevant, and meaningful for a broader segment of our student population.

3. Arts Marketing Team – to initiate and assess new student-driven arts marketing efforts including more word-of-mouth (WOM) and other novel marketing strategies such as social media, flash mobs, etc.
